Happy Christmas Eve!!
For today’s post I thought I’d share with you all my essentials for the perfect Christmas makeup look; something that will stick around on your face all day & look flawless until you decide to take it off. I love makeup & particularly so at Christmas – it’s usually the only time I’m brave enough to wear darker lip colours and really go all out with the sparkle, so it’s a very welcome treat for me!
However, what makes this post special is that it is a huge collab with some of my FAVE blogging gals; Liv from Olivia Grace, Najida from Life as Najida, Ella from A Sprinkle of Ella Rose, Lib from Life of Libs, Grace from Grace Does Blogs & finally Tash from Thoughtful Tash! I’ll link their posts towards the end of this post, but they all have fantastic blogs so I’d really recommend you checking them out & reading all their lovely festive content!
The first thing for me which is a definite essential in a makeup look around this time of year is having a really solid base. My skin is quite dry all year round, but it only gets worse during winter time, and so I like my makeup to try combat that & be as hydrating as possible. I use the Too Faced Born This Way foundation in the shade ivory, which is still a little dark for me (despite being the lightest shade! Oh the perks of being pale & having freckles – rare to find something that actually matches your skin tone!), however I really love the formula. After I’ve applied my foundation, I use the collection lasting perfection concealer in the shade fair to brighten up under my eyes & any dull areas of my face – like everyone, I really love this concealer & it is amazing value. To set this all in place I use Rimmel Stay Matte powder, which is I think the only powder I’ve actually ever used & it’s always worked for me! I use this in the shade translucent so it doesn’t really give any extra coverage, but that’s fine for me as I don’t love a heavy base anyway.
Once I’ve done my general base makeup, aside from blush, highlight & all that jazz (which I tend to leave until last), I get onto my eyes. If I am doing super heavy eye makeup, I do my eyes first & then go in with my base, but usually my eye makeup isn’t too dark or intense so I just do it after my base.
My two absolute FAVE palettes around this time of year are the Urban Decay Naked palette & Too Faced Chocolate Bar. I think they’re lovely festive palettes; they’ve got a really nice amount of shimmers in (something which is very important to me in the festive season because Christmas means glitter to me!), plus some really universal matte shades which you can use to create any look!! At the moment, one of my favourite looks is applying salted caramel from the too faced palette as a transitional shade, putting semi sweet in my crease, cherry cordial in the outer corner of my eye & half baked (from Naked) over my lid. This is, for me, the perfect shimmery gold eyeshadow look & really epitomises Christmas!
Finally, I finish this off with Benefit Roller Lash mascara, which is my favourite mascara ever & I attempt winged eyeliner with the Collection High Drama Intense Liquid Eyeliner – notice the ‘attempt’; nine times out of ten I screw up & have to deal with strange looking eyeliner all day long but for some reason I always keep trying!
My face pretty much takes me no time at all, and no matter what the season, it’s nearly always the same. I use the Benefit Hoola Bronzer & the Urban Decay Backtalk palette – from the palette, I use cheap shot for blush & party foul for highlight. I’ve hit pan on the highlight big time which is a shame as it’s one of my favourites, but all in all I really love the backtalk palette, and find it so useful – the eyeshadows on the other side are lovely too. I’ll be reviewing this in the new year!
To finish off my festive makeup look, I always include a red lip! If I’m going all out, I’ll use my reddest red which is the Too Faced Melted Matte in Lady Balls, although this is incredibly bright red & very drying, so I don’t actually use it all that often. I’m loving a glossy lip at the moment, so often I’m reaching for this No7 High Shine Lip Gloss – it’s a nice red, which isn’t too bold, and the formula is good too. It’s not sticky, which is usually what puts me off lipgloss!
Thank you guys SO much for reading this post – what are your makeup essentials for Christmas? Make sure you go check out the posts from the other girls in this collab & give them some love. Have an amazing Christmas, and I’ll see you all soon!
