A Q&A | Celebrating My Sixteenth Birthday

I post every Wednesday and Saturday, and today my birthday fell on a Wednesday, and I was wondering what to post.  In general, my birthday is a bit of a weird day for me, I’m not sure why, so I wasn’t really sure what to post which would commemorate it in a decent way, if you know what I mean.  I was originally going to do a sixteen things I’ve learned in sixteen years style post, but quickly realised I have very little advice to impart and have only learnt around three things in my sixteen years (whether you see this as an impressive measure of my laziness or a disappointing use of my time is up to you, I’m still to decide).  Anyway, it’s the day before my birthday now and at the last minute I’ve decided that a good old Q&A would be the best option, some of my newer followers can get to know me a little more, and I really do love answering your questions!

By the way,  if you hadn’t already gathered, today, the 8th August, is my sixteenth birthday.

So, I’ve asked around on twitter and instagram for you all to send me in your questions for me to answer!  I’ve had loads of replies, so I’m not sure whether or not I’ll answer them all, as I tend to get extremely rambly with my Q&A answers, but we’ll see!

Who’s been your favourite brand to collab with?

So far, probably betty box or case app; I’ve absolutely loved their products!

If you could spend a day with one person, dead or alive, who would you choose?

This one is quite hard for me to answer, but maybe a member of the royal family?  I find them extremely interesting and love the history behind it, so I’d definitely like the opportunity to spend the day with one of them (not sure who though!).

How long have you been blogging?

Three years, it’ll be coming up to four in January!  You can read my three years blogging experience here!

What’s your top advice for new bloggers?

I need to write a new blog post about this, because I definitely have so many more tips since my last post.  If I could give you one piece of advice, it would be to get twitter and follow bloggers; engage with their content, promote your blog and create connections with them – you and your blog will benefit so much from this, and it’s so fun!

Why did you decide to start your blog?

Boredom.  I’d been really bored without a hobby for like basically my entire life (very little entertained me, I’d tried many clubs and things like brownies and guides, none of which were for me at all – and that’s fine, you don’t have to always be someone who is part of a club or something to have a hobby!) so when I was twelve, I decided enough was enough, and I’d start a blog to cure my boredom.  Here I am now, on that very same blog nearly four years later!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Probably if something doesn’t make you happy, do something about it.  I try to apply this to all aspects of my life; I’ve had to leave friends behind because they weren’t making me happy (the exact opposite actually, which is just never what anyone needs), move schools on multiple occasions because what I was doing wasn’t good for my happiness.  You can always change something if it isn’t making you happy, nothing is holding you back!

What’s been your best birthday to date?

Honestly, I have a pretty awful memory & I can’t remember my birthdays all too well.  I know I really enjoyed my 12th or 13th birthday when my family and I went to flamingo land, which is like a theme park/zoo type thing.  Although I don’t love theme parks, I do like most of the rides at flamingo land!

Where do you want to go next in the world?

I have all sorts of places I’d like to travel, but at the moment I’m really into european cities.  I’d like to visit Prague, Budapest or Amsterdam next!  Or Paris!

What are your go-to skincare products?

Definitely Liz Earle cleanse and polish, it’s my absolute holy grail for my dry skin and the only thing that removes my makeup without making my face all irritated!  If you’d like to read a review of it, I did one here!

If you could live as an animal for a day, what would you be and why?

Will it be super generic Sophie if I say a cat?  If you didn’t know, cats are my favourite animal of all time (lets please celebrate the fact that my birthday is the same day as international cat day, that’s how much I love cats!  Plus, it was founded on this day in 2002, which also happens to be the year of my birth!) and to spend a day lazing around and just generally being a cat would be great.  Otherwise, probably a butterfly; they’re pretty and it’d be fun to be able to fly around!

What do you do apart from blogging?  You are doing a great job at it!

Firstly, thank you very much!  And as for what I do apart from blogging, I do lots of things!  I like to read, write, play with my cats and watch a substantial amount of Netflix – I’m planning on doing a post all about my new netflix loves!  I also am in full time education, s that plays a big part in what I do on the daily, but blogging does take up a lot of my time (I wouldn’t have it any other way though!)

What inspires you to post?

Everything!  I’m feeling especially motivated towards my blog at the moment and I’m full of ideas, but when I’m not I take to pinterest for my inspiration as it always gets me motivated!

What are the best ways you’ve found to promote your blog?

I talk about this more in this post, but I love to use twitter.  I schedule my tweets using Buffer and the majority of my traffic comes from twitter now.  I can always write a post on this if it would help people!

What are you most looking forward to when you are 16?

Probably starting sixth form!  I enjoy starting new schools & although the idea of A Levels, and worse still GCSE results day, scares me immensely, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it!

What does it feel like being 16?

The same as when I was fifteen, except I now am the same age as my friends for a little while until they all turn seventeen in winter!!

I really enjoyed answering all your questions, so thank you guys so much for sending them in!  I’d also like to just say a huge huge thank you to those of you who follow me on twitter and instagram & have been splothering me with birthday wishes throughout the day; it means a lot to me to have built such a lovely community and to know such amazing people!  Thank you guys so much.  If you’d like to see more of my birthday today then make sure to follow my instagram to keep an eye on my stories where I’m going to be documenting the day!

Soph xx

Sweet 16 Sophie! I hope you had a fabulous day and thank you for answering my question! I’m dreading both results day and 6th form in general. Maybe I just worry too much, haha x

Thank you so much Najida! I’m dreading results day too, but sixth form I’m not too worried about; I’ve moved schools like 4 times so change doesn’t bother me too much. Results day is not going to go well though so we’ll see how I feel about sixth form when I inevitably don’t get in!😂x

Haha, I honestly get what you mean! I’m not worried about the change. I’m worried about the work load because I was a mess during GCSEs😂 I hope we both can get into 6th form💗💗

This is such a lovely post and a belated happy birthday to you! I totally agree with so much of what you’ve said especially the part about doing what makes you happy. That really does go for everything in life. My holy grail is also liz earle cleanse and polish, can’t live without it! I really enjoyed this post.
