In winter, my skin gets so dry, and it’s a painful experience. However, I have devised a skincare routine for myself over the years which I think solves the problems of cold weather and dry skin nicely, and so I’m here today to share with you how I do it! Just so you know, this is my evening skincare routine, on a morning it’s a lot more simple and usually more rushed; i’ll wash, tone and moisturise my face and thats about all!
The first thing I do to start off my skincare routine is remove my makeup with Garnier’s Micellar Water. I love this as it does a thorough job of cleansing my skin and removing any traces of makeup.
However, I personally do not feel my skin is totally clean when I haven’t washed it. I use the Neutrogena grapefruit face wash every morning and evening to wash away the dirt of the day and and little remainders of makeup. I’ll also scrub my face every two days or so in the shower as not to irritate it with being scrubbed too heavily, however I do love this Neutrogena spot stress control scrub as it keeps my skin feeling lovely and soft. Both these products are nice and gentle whilst still being effective.
After I’ve washed my face and patted it dry with a towel, I head over to my Garnier Botanical Toner with rose water to tone my face. You can read my review of this toner here for more information on it, but I love the way it makes my skin feel and the smell of it; it doesn’t irritate my skin which is excellent for winter!
After this comes the final part of my skincare routine, moisturiser. I use one from simple during the winter, the Replenishing Rich Moisturiser. It’s super hydrating and keeps my face moisturised all through the night and all day long, which means I don’t suffer any really horrible dryness!
However, if my skin has been hit hard and is feeling a little drier than usual, or I’ve got some nasty spots popping up, there are some extra products I’ll use that I’ve been going to for months now and they’ve really helped me sort my skin. If my skin is very dry, I’ll first use this superdrug hydrating face mask which is more of a very intense moisturiser. I like to apply it on thickly and wash it off after about twenty minutes, and it leaves my skin feeling super hydrated and soft. Another thing I’ll deviate towards if my skin is really in need of a boost is the Urban Veda facial oil, which I did a whole review on back in October when it was released, and I’m still loving it just as much! It always gives my skin a super moisturising boost which is just what I need during winter. The final product is the ever famous Mario Badescu drying lotion which I just pop on a spot with a cotton bud overnight and by the morning it is significantly smaller, less red and far improved; it’s my holy grail product for spots and I love using it to fight them.
So, thats the extent of my full skincare routine that I do on a daily basis to fight off dry skin and keep my skin in perfect condition – or as near to it as possible! I really do find this routine works for me, but it might not work for everyone so make sure you experiment with products and find what really works for you!
